چکیده

We extend the definition of quasi-finite complexes by considering not necessarily countable complexes. We provide a characterization of quasi-finite complexes in terms of L-invertible maps and dimensional properties of compactifications. Several results related to the class of quasi-finite complexes are established, such as completion of metrizable spaces, existence of universal spaces and a version of the factorization theorem. Further, we extend the definition of UV (L)-spaces on non-compact case and show that some properties of UV (n)-spaces and UV (n)-maps remain valid, respectively, for UV (L)-spaces and UV (L)-maps.

Kruskal-Katona type theorems for clique complexes arising from chordal and strongly chordal graphs

A forest is the clique complex of a strongly chordal graph and a quasiforest is the clique complex of a chordal graph. Kruskal–Katona type theorems for forests, quasi-forests, pure forests and pure quasi-forests will be presented. Introduction Recently, in commutative algebra, the forest ([5]) and the quasi-forest ([17] and [9]) have been extensively studied. Each of these concepts is, however,...

N ov 2 00 1 ON ASYMPTOTIC DIMENSION OF GROUPS ACTING ON TREES

We prove the following. Theorem. Let π be the fundamental group of a finite graph of groups with finitely generated vertex groups G v having asdim G v ≤ n for all vertices v. Then asdim π ≤ n + 1. This gives the best possible estimate for the asymptotic dimension of an HNN extension and the amalgamated product. §0 Introduction The notion of the asymptotic dimension asdim X of a metric space X w...

We show that a certain type of quasi finite, conservative, ergodic , measure preserving transformation always has a maximal zero entropy factor, generated by predictable sets. We also construct a conservative, ergodic , measure preserving transformation which is not quasi finite; and consider distribution asymptotics of information showing that e.g. for Boole’s transformation, information is as...

2 00 4 Strong Jordan separation and applications to rigidity

In this paper, we extend the results of [10] to higher dimension. We prove that simple, thick hyperbolic P-manifolds of dimension ≥ 3 exhibit Mostow rigidity. We also prove a quasi-isometry rigidity result for the fundamental groups of simple, thick hyperbolic P-manifolds of dimension ≥ 3. The key tool in the proof of these rigidity results is a strong form of the Jordan separation theorem, for...
